Pre-University Studies Department was organized in 2008 on the basis of the Fee Tuition Department, functioning since 1995.
Pre-University Studies Department is an organizational, educational, methodical and scientific structural subdivision of the university which includes the following chairs: the Chair of Foreign Languages, the Chair of Physical Education and the Chair of Sports and Physical Rehabilitation.
Teaching staff of the department consists of 31 lecturer. There are 6 Professor Assistants, Ph.D., 11 senior lecturers and 13 junior members of teaching staff at the Department.
The Department conducts training of students at the Preparatory Division and at the Preparatory Courses; it also trains students of all branches and majors. The Department organizes and conducts professional orientation among youth of the region and beyond, develops technologies for fee tuition studies, provides the paid education services in the university.
The Chair of Foreign Languages was founded in 1964. The Head of Chair is Kukharska V.B., Professor Assistant, Ph.D. (Ternopil, Russka str. 56, teching building 1, room 307, tel. 25 35 27, kaf_im@tu.edu.te.ua ).
English, German and French are taught at the Chair to students, post-graduate and doctoral students, leading specialists from different organizations of the region and foreigners in the following specialties: foreign language for special use, business foreign language.
The Chair is working at the complex scientific and research subject "The Concept of Teaching Foreign Language as a Language for Special Use within the Framework of the Bologna Process". The teachers at the Chair also conduct scientific research in the philological, philosophical, pedagogical and psychological branches.
The Chair provides translations of scientific works of the leading specialists of the university for the participation in international conferences, symposia etc.
The teachers at the Chair use modern scientific and methodical technologies of foreign language learning which give a significant result - the students of the university are multiple winners of the All-Ukrainian Foreign Language Competitions.
In order to provide a more profound learning of foreign languages a Foreign Language Centre was created at the Chair. The Foreign Language Centre conducts various activities - teaching, scientific, methodical and consultative work.
The Chair of Physical Education was founded in 1962. The Head of the Chair is the Excellent Man of Education of Ukraine, the Honorable Worker of the Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine, senior lecturer Teplyi A.M. (Ternopil, Bilogirska str., teaching building 10, room 227, tel. 250668, kaf_fv@tu.edu.te.ua ).
The Chair of Sports and Physical Rehabilitation was founded in 2006. The Head of Chair is a swimming coach of the higher category, Professor Assistant, Ph.D. Kurko Y.V. (Ternopil, Bilogirska str., teaching building 10, tel. 522744, kaf_ks@tu.edu.te.ua).
The Chair of Physical Education and the Chair of Sports and Physical Rehabilitation fulfill the common tasks of physical education and sanitation of students and co-workers of the university as well as the citizens of Ternopil and Ternopil region.
The Chairs are equipped with modern physical infrastructure having in their disposition a gym with spectator stands for 300 persons, a gymnastic area, a workout room, a weightlifting room, an aerobics and fitness hall, a swimming pool with spectator stands for 150 persons, Vasyl Ivanchuk Chess School and a modern conference hall with Internet access.
Open sports grounds with asphalt surface are functioning at the sports complex "Polytechnic". Among them there are tennis courts as well as volleyball, basketball and handball grounds.
The construction of the stadium with spectator stands for 1500 persons and the football field is to be finished soon.
Every year the Department enlarges both the quantity of students at the Preparatory Division and the Courses and the amount of services provided. The Department's work becomes more efficient as it searches for the new forms of attracting youth to the educational and scientific work.
